IELTS Test Format

There are two different types of IELTS exam:  Academic and General Training, each consisting of four sections; speaking, listening, reading, and writing. While the Listening and Speaking remains the same for all test takers, but Reading and Writing tests are different. It is important for candidates to prepare for the correct test type.

As per the set rules, Listening, Reading and Writing tests are performed the same day, without any break. The speaking section, on the other hands, can be completed up to a week before or after the other tests. Candidates are provided flexibility to choose the date and time of speaking test, but in case of failure to choose the desired schedule, the default schedule will be set three hours after the three tests. The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Listening

The IELTS listening is a 30-minute long test, designed to assess a wide range of listening skills, including how well you:

  • Understand main ideas and factual information
  • Recognize the opinionsand purpose of a speaker

 

Follow the development of an argument

Reading

For the IELTS reading test, you get total 6o minutes to read and answer the questions, so it is important to efficientlymanage your time.

The test is designed to assess reading skills, including how well you:

  • Read for the general sense of a passage
  • understand inferences and implied meaning
  • recognize a writer’s opinions, attitudes and purpose

Writing

This is a 60-minute long test that is aimed to assess a wide range of writing skills, including how well you:

  • Write a response appropriately
  • Use a range of vocabulary and grammar accurately

Speaking

If you have been affected or tested positive with COVID 19, it is your moral duty to stay at home and get proper treatment. This is the only way to stop this pandemic. Even if you have been in contact with someone who was tested positive for COVID, make sure to not attend the test.

During this 11–14 minutes speaking test, you will talk to a certified examiner. This is an interactive test and as close to a real-life situation as a test can get. The examiner will ask some general questions about yourself and other topics to check your speaking skills and the test will be recorded.

The goal is to check how well you can:

  • Communicate opinions and information
  • Speak at length on a given topic using appropriate language
